A 1989 London Taxi is being offered on eBay, fitted with a 502ci big-block Chevrolet V8 engine putting out 444hp.

The engine swap is more than three times the capacity of the original Nissan-sourced 2.7-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder fitted to the taxi in 1989, resulting in a power increase of 347 per cent.

To help get passengers where they need to go, the rear-end has been tubbed and fitted with Hoosier tyres, while the hydraulic suspension allows the driver to pick their angle of attack.

The taxi also features a side-exit exhaust, shaved door handles, and a retrimmed interior in grey leather with Autometer gauges and a fare meter.

The listing says the taxi was converted in London by a company called Britannia Hydraulics & Custom Accessories in the early 1990s, and is still street legal in the UK.

Spanning nearly four decades, the 1958 Austin FX4 was the iconic London taxi. Being that this vehicle was made in 1989 however – two years after the Austin brand was retired – this taxi would have been manufactured under licence by London Taxis International.

This particular vehicle was imported to Austria around 10 years ago where it remains today. If you’re looking to upgrade your hybrid Camry, this London Taxi can be yours for just €34,990 (AU$56,400).
