THE Melbourne arm of the Street Machine team headed out to Greazefest at Sandown Racecourse over the weekend. This is the second year that the long-running Queensland event has made its way to Victoria.

Greazefest is as much as a music festival as it is a car show, and boss-lady Lori Lee Cash works hard to bring in killer rockabilly bands from overseas and Australia. This year’s roster included Will and the Hi-Rollers from Las Vegas and the Go Getters from Sweden, ace! The show also includes an art show, vintage markets and live tiki carving and, of course, a pre-1970 car and bike show.

WEB Greazefest 11Arthur Mats cruised up from Geelong in his VOODOO ’53 Chev. Arthur is the man behind another great rockabilly event, the Camperdown Cruise. Check it out at camperdowncruise.com.au

WEB Greazefest 10Leon Davies brought his ’48 Ford F1 pickup – fondly known as Trucky – up from Geelong. Trucky has done numerous road trips to events up and down the east coast.

WEB Greazefest 9Aaron Knowles cruised up with Leon in his own bagged pickup, in his case a nice and shiny ’52 Chev. His neat little BSA single took out the Top Ride gong at Greazefest.

WEB Greazefest 8Kamikaze from the Brisbane Beatniks was in Melbourne helping out the organisers and also did a spot of his patented chainsaw-powered tiki carving for the crowds.

WEB Greazefest 7This shot provides a little insight into how much work has gone into getting Trucky sitting nice and low!

WEB Greazefest 6James Chisholms slinky ’54 Chev Belair is a wild little unit. Chopped four inches at the front and six at the back, it was painted in flat gunmetal grey, with a gloss white roof, metalflake scallops and pinstripes by Gilbert Torres.

WEB Greazefest 4Ashley Cave brought his ’28 tub over from Adelaide. It is powered by an 8BA flathead and backed by an all-synchro three-speed. Bitching!

WEB Greazefest 3Vince from American Graffiti Auto Restorations rocked up in his bitching ’56 Ford Thunderbird. It is powered by a stout 312 Y-block.

WEB Greazefest 2Mimsy from Trailer Trash Tattoo in Brisbane brought her impressive set up down for the Melbourne event.

WEB Greazefest 1Dave Menzies’ ’28 roadster won the King Rod title. The home-built beauty is powered by a 354ci Hemi.
