Holden versus Ford rivalry is alive and well in Sue Boyle’s backyard. Over in the Blue Oval corner is her hubby Max and their sons, including Nathan, whose impressive turbo Windsor-powered XR Falcon featured in the August 2025 issue of Street Machine. Sue is the lone Lion devotee in the family, and this splendid 1960 FB Station Sedan is her prized possession.

It must be tricky being the only Holden fan at home!

I do get a bit of ribbing, but I just prefer Holdens. My dad always had Holden utes – not that he was a big car guy. And as my hubby Max and our three sons are all into cars, I figured if I can’t beat them, then I’ll join them.

How’d you come across your FB?

I’d been hanging out for a wagon, and Max spotted an FB parked down a local driveway. He chatted with the owner, who mentioned her son was going to do it up one day. So, once a year for four years, Max would ask about the FB. Eventually, she realised the project wasn’t going to happen and sold it to us. We couldn’t get the trailer fast enough!

It’s a schmick-looking resto, too.

I didn’t want it too showy, as I always planned to drive the car. With the paint, I debated going with a stronger mauve, but decided to keep the original Lilac Grey and Cathay Grey two-tone, painted by Dozza from Ryan McDermott’s Paint & Panel. Also, I’ve kept the 138ci grey motor with the three-on-the-tree manual, as that is what I learnt to drive with. And I love the floor-mounted high-beam switch – it’s something that reminds me of when I was a kid – Dad would let me turn the high-beams on and off.

That’s all thanks to Paul from Coburg Trim – he’s a top bloke. I looked at his samples and found material close to original. Also, I’ve added some bling with the PearlCraft steering wheel and indicator knob. The FB was put together in our shed, mostly by Max, our sons Herb [Nathan] and Aaron, and me. It was a long project; very time-consuming.

And we hear you gave the car a bit of an unveiling!

We promised to show the wagon to the previous owner once it was finished. We organised with her son so they were out the front when we arrived. She was over the moon to see it done! After that, we’d planned to go to Summernats 37. I was polishing the FB when I got a call to say my dad was very unwell, so I decided to be with him instead, and he unfortunately passed away in January. We don’t do many shows, but on a whim, we did take the FB to the Devenish, Dookie & District Good Friday car show. It won Car of the Show; I was pretty happy with that!
