Holden HG Kingswood
Dean Hogen-Esch

“HERE’S my project that I’m hoping to complete next year. I’m the third owner of the car. It was in perfect condition when I bought it, as it had lived in a shed for years, and was running a 186 with a Datsun five-speed gearbox. It also came with the original Holden books with the first owner’s name and number in it, so I called them and we had a chat.

The HG came from over east. The first owner optioned it up with sway-bars and bucket seats and used the car to tow his caravan. I enjoyed it as a six-cylinder for a while and then decided I wanted to modernise it and enjoy it as a daily. It now has a rebuilt LS1, 4L80E trans, fabricated K-frame and BorgWarner Commodore diff. It has air con, power windows, a sat-nav head unit and power steering to make it much nicer to drive. Clint DiGiovanni from SRM in Perth has been a great help with this project. Apart from smoothed bumpers, wheels and a fresh paintjob, it should look reasonably standard from a distance once it is finished. “

Ford XF panel van
Alex Turnbull

“THIS is my XF panel van with XE front and interior. I call it The Blue Devil. I’m currently building a Barra for it with the goal of 1000rwhp. It’s got a Precision 7675 GEN2 ball-bearing turbo with a 6boost turbo manifold and a Tunnel Vision intake manifold. It will have forged internals with a billet crank.”

Holden VL Berlina
Luke Johnston

“I’VE got a VL Berlina with a 355 stroker in it, plus a Turbo 400 gearbox and VL turbo diff. It’s had a full inside-out respray in DNA Candy Fuchsia over silver bars, and will get full custom trim in mustard-coloured leather. Everything is all brand new from Rare Spares. Hopefully its first show will be Summernats 34 – fingers crossed!”

Holden LJ Torana
David Edelman

“I’VE been rebuilding my LJ Torana, and it’s now getting close to the final stages. I’ve been right through the car and unpicked the body and doors; the only thing I haven’t touched is the roof. The plan is to have a healthy 308 in it to keep it Aussie.”

HQ Holden
John Williams

“HERE’S my ’71 HQ GTS tribute, which will hopefully be on the road by Christmas. I bought it from a lady in Canberra 12 months ago. It was parked in a shed for almost 20 years. It was a 186, but now runs a stage-three 350 Chev built by NME Motorsport in Brisbane, backed by a Turbo 400 ’box. I’m building it to be driven, so it’s nothing too silly – just a nice street car for the wife and kids to cruise in on a Sunday.”

Chevy C10
James Clarke

“I’M CURRENTLY building a ’68 Chevy C10. It’s been five years in progress – too slow for my liking, but unfortunately work is a priority. I’m up to bodywork now, so it won’t be long ’til it’s finished. It will run an LSA crate motor, a Mal Wood-built Tremec 6060 six-speed and an Eaton Truetrac diff.

Ridetech damper-adjustable air shocks are up front, with Ridetech damper-adjustable shocks in the rear with air springs. Brakes are Wilwood all ’round, and wheels are Foose Legend 20s.”
