“This is my Chevrolet Impala fastback, powered by a 468ci big-block V8 backed by an 11in TCI converter and flexplate, TH400, and a GM 12-bolt Positraction diff with 3.73:1 gearing.

“The car was sold new from Wood Chevrolet in Alabama in ’68, but by the late 90s, it had ended up in Pennsylvania, where it was given a full ground-up rebuild and went on to score a Top 10 spot at the 1999 Super Chevy Show in Norwalk, along with a small spot in Super Chevy magazine (top, left).

“It was then sold and shipped off to Australia in 2003. Details are vague about the years in between, but I first spotted it for sale in 2016. I wasn’t able to buy it then, but during COVID lockdown, my wife was browsing Marketplace and saw it for sale again, so we drove from Queensland to Sydney to have a look, and it came back with us on a trailer.

“At that time, it still had all the billet accessories, except for the wheels, which had been replaced with GM Rallye rims. I decided to put everything back to factory spec, so I removed all the billet stuff and redid the ignition, fuel system and suspension, and changed the wheels to 15×3.5 and 15×10 Center Line Convo Pros.

“I’m now in the process of converting it to EFI, with a modified Enderle stack-injection manifold, 1000cc injectors, Haltech Elite 2500 ECU, a Raceworks fuel system and more. The engine and trans will be given a freshen-up too. The factory Sequoia Green Paint is still in good condition for its age – there’s a couple of chips here and there, but hey, it’s a driver.”
