Home-brewed 13B rotary-powered Suzuki Mighty Boy

Cameron Rochow built his 335rwhp, rear-wheel-drive Mighty Boy in his shed and is aiming for a nine-second street car on E85 with more boost

“I’ve owned my Mighty Boy since around 2006,” says Cameron Rochow. “And in that time it’s gone through a lot of changes, from completely stock to where it is now.

“It’s been converted to rear-wheel drive and runs a Mazda extended-port 13B Turbo rotary, rebuilt by Warick Massey. Behind that is a fully rebuilt, transbraked Jatco three-speed from GZM Automotive, while the rear end is a shortened, 31-spline, full-spool Commodore BorgWarner.

“The Mighty Boy currently makes 335rwhp, and I’ve run a best of 10.61@130mph. The GT3582R turbo is currently on 16psi, as I’m at the limits of pump 98 at the moment, but I’m currently upgrading the fuel system and moving some things around so it can run E85. Then I can bump that boost up and make some more power.

“I did all the body, paint, fabrication, wiring and mechanical work at home – it’s 100 per cent shed built!

My goal is for the Mighty Boy to be a genuine nine-second street car that’s driven on the track in the exact same form as it is on the street. And of course, I have a matching barbecue trailer for it!”

Cameron entered the Suzuki in this year’s Optima Ultimate Street Car competition at Calder Park earlier in the year. The Mighty Boy was the quickest car down the unprepped quarter mile in the Tuner class, running a best of 11.98 seconds.
