- Winners will be the first to get married at RCN
- Grand prize is worth $15,000
- New bride and groom will lead Saturday night cruise
The Red CentreNATS ‘Win a Wedding’ competition has been run and done, and we’re super stoked to announce that Joel and Bonnie Sykes are the two lucky love birds!
They’ve scored themselves a wedding worth $15,000, with the ceremony taking place on Saturday September 4. As well as a celebrant, reception, hens and bucks night and photo and video package, the newlyweds will also lead the super popular RCN street parade on Saturday night, which draws large crowds who flock to the outskirts and CBD of Alice Springs to watch all the entrants cut a lap around town.
They won’t be leading the parade in a rented Camry either. Joel Sykes is the owner of LETSGO, a stonking HK Belmont drag and burnout car, but he’s hoping his new ride dubbed SINNER will make for a perfect wedding machine to lead the procession on Saturday afternoon.
The bride-to-be Bonnie Sykes was over the moon when she found out she and Joel were the winners: “We’ve been together for 12 years and engaged for six years – since then we’ve had two kids, Noah, 5 and Chloe, 9 months. I didn’t think we’d ever actually get married so I went and legally changed my surname to Sykes,” she said.
Summernats co-owner Andy Lopez can’t think of a better place for two petrol heads to commit to get hitched: “The Red Centre is such a beautiful part of our country. What better place to tie the knot than against the stunning backdrop of the West MacDonnell Ranges?” he said.
The couple will be the first in RCN history to get married during the event, which will be the seventh running RCN that gets underway in Alice Springs on September 3-5. There’ll be burnouts, show and shine, street cruising, heavy hitters drag racing and of course the crowning of the RCN Grand Champion.
Entrant tickets are still up for grabs, starting at just $75 for you, your car and a mate – that’s full access to all three days of RCN for two people and a car for $75! How could you say no?
