SUMMERNATS’ Burnout Championship might be seen as the ‘regular’ burnout comp of the event, as opposed to the best-of-the-best Burnout Masters stoush, but there was nothing regular about the performances at this year’s go-round. A huge field of tyre-fryers and their wild machines certainly gave the crowd plenty of bang for their buck.
Once the smoke cleared after the finals on Sunday arvo, it was Mick Hamon’s VE Commodore, WIDE OPEN, that won the title of Burnout Champion for 2019. Nik Fraser took out second in his MELTEM ’79 Corolla sedan, while Alex Hirst spun his HT Holden ute, BAD HT, to third place.
Other winners included Shawn Johnson for Best Four-Cylinder Burnout in his Datsun 1600; Mark Ansaldi, who took home Best Six-Cylinder Burnout in his XG ute; and Brad Scroop, who won the Encouragement Award for his efforts in his VR Commodore ute, FROFFIN.
