Northern Nats has held each year at Springmount Raceway up near Cairns since 2016 and has become one of the highlights of the show and go calendar.
The event combines drag racing, roll racing, go-to-whoa, drift demos, top shelf skids thanks to the Tropical Meltdown crew and an excellent show and shine over three days of fun at a top-notch facility.
We couldn’t make it this year, but local shooter Daniel Sallai was on hand to capture the action for us. Check out his website here.
And there was plenty of look at, starting with a swag of interstate top guns on hand to delight the crowds, including Peter Grmusa in ATRISK, Jake Myers in S1CKO/GM176, Andrew Lynch in LYNCHY and Steve Loader in UCSMOKE.
Matt Smith’s CUTNUTZ Morris Minor ute is a regular high-achiever at Northern Nats and 2023 was no different, with the little weapon taking out the Go to Whoa.
Lee Povey and his show and go VL JKLHYD certainly get’s around. We’ve seen him in action at events as far afield as Red Centre NATS in Alice Springs, Holden Nats in Victoria and at Willowbank. And don’t think that Springmount is exactly local for him, taking over 12 hours by road!
For his efforts, Lee took out second place in the Super Comp class in the drags, as well as Best Presented, Biggest MPH and a win in Lee’s first-ever attempt at roll racing.
The coveted Car of Show award went to Justin Pitsikas’s BMW REFINED, all the way from WA! Justin also took out Best Engineere in the Elite judging.
Lucas Hurley’s epic VC Valiant (our June 2022 cover car) won Top Elite and Top Panel.
Peter Grumusa continued his winning ways in ATRISK, claiming the top spot in the Pro Top 10 ahead of Jake Myers and Kyle Douglas in LUXIFER.
Kyle scored a Burnout Masters ticket, as did Steve Loader, while Todd Steward in UNFAZED nabbed a Wild Card invite for Street Machine Summernats 36.
Aaron Chalkley in the excellenty-named AUDOIN Falcon won the Six Cylinder class ahead of Nick Bayne in FERAL UTE
Terry Blancheard in the JOYRIDE Corolla won the Modfied class ahead of Casey Tolcher in HI RI2K.
As you’s expect, LYNCHY won the Best Tip In award, while Ryan Lofts won Best Powerskid in OR WHAT.
