Angelo Furfaro’s HELLRT VH Charger

Many will remember PROVC, Angelo Furfaro’s ballistic VC Valiant from the cover of our August 2019 issue. With its 750hp, twin-turbo 358ci R5P7 NASCAR motor, it was one stout silver arrow. We bumped into Angelo at the Bright Rod Run in November with his recently finished Citron Gold Metallic 1972 VH Charger, and sat him down for a cold beer and a quick catch-up.

What’s happening with PROVC?

I sold it about three years ago. Actually, it recently came back up for auction again. I couldn’t be bothered cleaning it anymore. Also, I wasn’t really enjoying it. I was always stressed about who was around it, worried something might happen to it. Don’t get me wrong, it was my dream to have a car like that; I’m glad I did, but I wouldn’t go to that extent again.

Are you enjoying Bright?

I love it! I’ve been coming here for the past six or seven years. I like that it’s not all the same cars. My wife Kylie and our two boys Sebastian and Daniel really enjoy it as well; it’s a great family event. I also get to catch up with mates, get together for a BBQ, and have a good time.

Tell us about the Charger.

It’s a survivor car, which still had the jellybean mags and original 245 six-cylinder. It’s not an R/T – I added the stripe and decal to break it up. It’s not long back from PSIDUP Fabrications, who added mini-tubs, chassis connectors, a ’cage and parachute mount. I’ve also fixed a few little things, like the brakes, and cleaned up the interior with a new hoodlining and carpet. Bright is pretty much the Charger’s first outing. This car is a lot less stressful than PROVC. I don’t have to worry with the kids; they can just jump in and do what kids do.

You sure do like your Vals.

Yeah, it’s not hard to make them look real tough.

How did HELLRT come into your life?

Back in 2020, a guy who has other Valiants posted that he had a car for sale. I messaged him, but it didn’t work out. However, he did mention he also had a Charger he might someday consider selling. Short story, he messaged me in 2025, and I bought it. We’ve become friends, we keep in touch, and even caught up at Chryslers on the Murray.

What are your plans for the car?

I had a vision in my head, which is exactly how it is now. Except for the engine and trans – they’re doing my head in. I keep tossing up between a 596/602ci normally aspirated, big-block Hemi, a Hellcat crate engine, or maybe go supercharged. At $26K, the Hellcat crate motor makes a lot of sense. It’s about a quarter the price of an aspo Hemi. I definitely want to do some track work – drive it to the track, run down the quarter, and drive home! All the enjoyment I never got out of PROVC, I want to have in the Charger.
