IT WAS a high quality field of burnout competitors that made the trek to Cairns for the inaugural Northern Nats at Springmount Raceway. And with a massive $20,000 awarded to the best burnout beast of the weekend, why wouldn’t there be. It was a winner takes all comp, with the winner decided by totalling the scores from three burnouts across the weekend. So this wasn’t just a one-shot, turn it on and be done deal, the boys and girls had to be consistent and go drama-free for the three days.
Plenty of cars didn’t make it through to round three skids with UCSMOKE, ATRISK, 1TUFHG, ULEGAL and more breaking their cars in the first and second rounds – Lynchy broke UCSMOKE, that’s another story. Because you had to do three skids to be eligible to win, those guys were all out of the running.
In the end it was the Ross Heasley in MRBADQ that won the event and took home the $20k. Ross is on a roll at the moment, having won Motorfest at Lardner park just a few weeks prior and placing well at Ultimate Burnout Challenge prior to that in his blown small-block HQ Monaro. Behind Ross was Nik Fraser in MELTEM and Fred Watson in FEAR, in second and third respectively.
