TEN-SECOND 383-CUBE LC TORANA GTR – VIDEO

Young gun Blake Evens built himself a ten-second GTR Torana

ALL too often we hear from young guys trying to get into the scene telling us it’s too expensive, or too hard to find good cars, but none of that has stopped 21-year-old Blake Evans from realising his dream of owning a cool 10-second LC Torana.

Blake started building his LC GTR Torana about five years ago, which may seem like a long time, but he did build a pretty cool circuit-spec VK Commodore at the same time. Unlike the VK Blake took his time building the Torana and the results show – the Linamint Green GTR is sex on wheels. It’s powered by a 383ci stroker with cast iron heads, a Harrop single plane and a 750 Holley, and it runs strong on pump 98 octane fuel; using a Turbo 350 with a 5000rpm converter to feed power to a 31-spline, 3.5geared nine-inch.

There’s nothing ground breaking about the combination. It’s just a well matched set of tried and tested components, but good enough to hoist the front left-hand wheel and push the little coupe into the mid 10-second zone at close to 130mph. Blake’s best run for the weekend was 10.51@131mph and that’s pretty good for his first time out with the new ride. Kind of renews your faith in the next generation of revheads, doesn’t it?
