Located just outside Shepparton in Kialla, Victoria, the Museum of Vehicle Evolution (MOVE) has played host to a ripper rotating collection of automobiles since it re-opened in late 2021, and next month, it will be home to the Art in Motion exhibition, featuring plenty of familiar Street Machine names.

Kicking off the weekend of 13-14 September, Art in Motion runs for six weeks until the end of October. The brains behind the exhibition is Chris Pace of Pace’s Paint Shop in Mackay, Queensland, who wanted to showcase our industry’s artistic talent to the wider public.

“After speaking with others about what it is we do in this industry, it was clear that a lot of people felt undervalued in regard to the artistic and creative aspects of their work and would welcome an opportunity to be a part of an actual art exhibition,” Chris explains.

Familiar names who’ve already confirmed their spot in the show include 2022 Street Machine of the Year winner Jasmine ‘Jazzy’ Green of Maskell’s Customs & Classics and her own Khaos Design; Aidan Donald of Aidan’s Design & Illustration; Brian Tanti’s Workshop; and Shane Rowe with the Southern Rod & Custom crew, to name just a few!

“It’s been incredible to talk to so many people from within the street machine and custom car-building community who have artistic interests,” says Chris.

The opportunity for new and existing artists and car fettlers to display their work in a non-competitive environment was a big drawcard for those participating, according to Chris. “People are excited to be able to display their work as art rather than being judged and categorised by their peers at a car show,” he says. “There are no trophies at the end of the event, so it’s a far more relaxed environment to be a part of.”

Along with the roster of exhibitors over the six weeks, Chris has organised plenty of other aspects to the show to keep punters entertained and perhaps even go back for a second look. “Brian Tanti will be hosting the opening weekend gala dinner, and we also have Shane Jacobson and Sandra Horne making guest appearances during the course of the exhibition as well,” he says.

Each weekend of the exhibition will also see car shows occurring outside the museum in the MOVE car park, kicked off by the Cranksters Rod & Kustom Club’s rod run on the opening weekend.

You can find more information about the exhibition on the Art in Motion Facebook page, and tickets can be pre-purchased from MOVE’s website at moveshepparton.com.au.
