SHANE Wilwott’s Toyota 1JZ-powered HT Holden ute features as a Sleeper in the July issue of Street Machine, and it’s a beautifully put together piece of kit. He bought it as a stocker and put it through its paces as a work hack, but a couple of mechanical woes prompted him to pull it off the road for a freshen-up and some contemporary Japanese mumbo.
Even on the stock motor with standard turbos and engine management, Shane reckons the 1JZ should be good for around 260-280rwhp, and that should be enough to propel the HT well into the 13s.
But he fronted at the WA Hot Rod and Street Machine Spectacular with two toys, and his genuine HZ Sandman was an absolute joy to behold. He first sold the idea of purchasing the Sandman to his fiancé Louise as it being a low-buck camping rig, but a full body-off resto inevitably ensued. Sneaky!
The Sandman is now resplendent in its original colour, and is restored to factory specifications and far better-than factory condition throughout.
Check out the video for our chat with Shane and Louise about both cars.
