LSA-powered Volvo sleeper

Is this LSA-powered Swedish Brick the coolest Volvo in Australia?

WITH it’s beige duco, RAC badge, venetian blind and sensible mudflaps, this looks like any other 1980s Volvo. Boring and fairly unremarkable, right? Aside from presenting in above-average condition, you’d never give it a second glance.

No way, Jose! Under the bonnet is a factory-supercharged 6.2-litre LSA motor, making for one hell of a sleeper. If you’re the owner, please get in touch, we’d love to learn more.

The funny thing is, I used to hate Volvos as a kid. Not only did they look terminally uncool, but then Kiwi driver Robbie Francevic used one won the Australian Touring Car championship in 1986. The shame!

But now, I’m all over it. I’d love to see this car up against Peter Gatward’s turbo 1UZ-FE wagon, just to compare the ins and outs of the two conversions and how they perform.
