“I got this ’63 EJ Special from an old lady near Sydney after a bunch of my mates had sent me the Facebook Marketplace listing.

“I’d been out of the car scene a long time, having got married, kids, the whole deal.

“My first car was an EH, but I ended up putting that one on its lid. I then moved through a few more cars, including a CL Valiant Sports Pack panel van that I took to a few shows.

“I fell out of the scene after that, until I got this EJ in 2017. It was listed for $5000. It was a complete car, and as part of the restoration, I’ve re-used all the glass, chrome – everything original to the car.

“I did the mechanical and trim, and had a good mate do the paint and panel in the original Sepik Green with Atherton Ivory roof.

“The goal was always to keep it as original as possible, which initially included the grey motor. I drove it to Rockhampton for Rockynats 2 with a grey motor, but it was just never quite enough.

“Now it has a red motor – a 186 taken out to around 192 cubes – and soon it’ll get a twin-carby set-up.

“I love cruising it around. Getting these old cars out and using them is what it’s all about!”
