Hellcat-powered Ring Brothers’ AMX Javelin

The Ring Brothers transform a 70s time-capsule Javelin into a Hellcat-powered show stopper


MIKE and Jim Ring, otherwise known as the Ring Brothers, have an enviable reputation for building stand-out debut cars for the SEMA Show.

Just some of their notable builds includes the Recoil Chevelle in 2015, the ADRNLN De Tomaso Pantera in 2015 and the Grinch Camaro in 2012. This year, the unveiled three cars, but the one that stole the show was a 1972 AMC Javelin AMX they built for coolant manufacturer Prestone.

And while it was a corporate deal, the car has a personal connection for the guys, who drooled over the Jav in the 70s, when it was a regular customer at their dad’s Wisconsin gas station. The owner – Gary Liegel – put the car on the shelf way back in 1977 and when he finally decided to sell, Mike and Jim had the first option to buy.

As you can see, the car was beautifully-preserved time capsule, with wild stripes, eight-track stereo and CB radio.

As with most Ring Brothers builds, the AMX features a host of body mods, including all-new panels in carbon fibre from the A-pillar forward, which stretches the car’s wheelbase and reduces the front overhang. There are pumped guards, a ‘Cuda-esque grill and a ton of bespoke trim pieces.

Rather than stick with the factory 401 V8, the boys went for a 6.2-litre Hellcat V8, further pumped-up with a Whipple blower. Behind that is Bowler automatic trans and a 12-bolt Chev rear end.

Underneath is a Detroit Speed and Engineering subframe, with four-link rear suspension and six-piston brakes. The car sits on 20in HRE rims with 285/30 and 335/30 tyres.
