Steve Serone’s LC Torana build is going to be next-level! After tackling the 2022-23 Drag Challenge in a nitrous LS EJ Holden, he’s now going all-in with a dedicated drag weapon and he’s gunning for sevens. The LC shell has been reworked from the ground up in his Newcastle shop. Here’s his brief story on the build so far.

“My first crack at Street Machine Drag Challenge was the 2022-’23 event in my nitrous LS-powered EJ Holden, and after successfully completing that week, I was instantly hooked.

“As soon as I got back, I was on Facebook Marketplace looking for something proper to build for it. Up until this point, everything I’ve built has been to smash tyres, so this Torana is the first purpose-built drag racer we’ll have done.

“The LC shell came down from Cairns to my shop in Newcastle. It had been half-started as a race car, but I cut it all out and started again straight away. The sheet-metal work is fairly extensive, and it’s all been done in-house.

“I’m building it to take as much as a 315 tyre, although we might also run a 275 for DC; I’m still a bit undecided on what tyre to use. For power, it’ll run a 400ci Dart Little M Bowtie, force-fed by a pair of Pulsar G42-1450 turbos.

“A Haltech Nexus R5 will act as the brains of the affair, and I reckon the combo should be good for 1500hp. Behind that will be a Reid-cased Powerglide built by TK Performance Transmissions, while the Strange 9in diff will be housed in a McDonald Brothers rear clip.

“We’ll be doing it up as an LC GTR replica; I don’t usually bother painting my cars, so this one we’ll do nice before I drive the wheels off it! The goal is to run sevens at each track during Drag Challenge 2025. Hopefully we can get it done for that event and have a crack!”
