IT MAY have only been Day Two at Street Machine Summernats 32, but there has already been action aplenty, as records were broken on the pad, in the dyno cell and even the Elite Hall.

Australia reclaimed its right to be called the burnout capital of world, taking back the Guinness World Record for the Largest Simultaneous Burnout, with 126 cars slaying tyres at once.

In the MPW Dyno Cell, Brenden ‘Bubba’ Medlyn took an early lead in the Haltech Horsepower Heroes comp when he pumped out 2261hp at 37psi on MPW’s hub dyno in his VH Commodore, before sending it with a massive burnout later in the day in Summernats’ new Skid Row lane.

Another dyno highlight was the latest instalment of the turbo-versus-blower rivalry, with ACDelco’s supercharged five-second Pro Slammer Monaro taking on Castle Hill Performance’s twin-turbo VT Commodore. The Commodore punched out 2604hp to beat the Monaro’s best of 2563hp.

On Thursday, burnout weapons battled it out in the Last Chance Wildcard Shootout in near 40-degree heat in the hopes of snaring one of the few remaining spots in the Burnout Masters comp. The five cars making it through to Saturday’s big show were Marc Waddington in the WARBIRD XP, Jay Chun Tie’s TINYTOW Suzuki Carry, Matt Lunney in FLIRT, Danny Smith in SOLID and Karl Haining in the FATLX Torana.

To cap things off, on Friday evening a record 17 cars were unveiled in the Meguiar’s Pavilion and the Top 60 show cars were announced, opening the voting for the People’s Choice award.
