IT has been a big couple of weeks at Street Machine HQ, with all hands on deck to get our 1963 Dodge Phoenix ready for the very-first Running on Empty Festival. The event kicks off this weekend in Cobar NSW, with all proceeds going towards raising funds for the local WWI memorial.
Despite a massive effort by Scotty and Iain Kelly, various gremlins have the Dodge build running a little behind schedule.
However, the car runs and drives like a champion, so with a little luck we’ve pass our roadworthy inspection tomorrow and be on our way.
Lots of other cool machines are heading to Cobar, including the original Fox 1 – all the way from WA!
Alan Potter (he of Foxy Lady panel van fame and many cool Mad Max replica vehicles) has created a killer tribute to the Rammer Chev. Alan has driven the car up from Melbourne.
Russel Soper has gone above and beyond – driving his tough HQ down from Mackay in FNQ!
And there will be many more in attendance to celebrate one of Australia’s best-ever car movies. We’ll be there to film an episode of Carnage, a segment for the upcoming Which Car TV show and a big yarn in the January issue of SM. If you’re up there, say G’day to Scotty, GT, Ellen, Gus and the rest of the crew.
