It has been a massive couple of weeks for the street machine scene in Adelaide.

On the 17-18 of November, the Adelaide Auto Expo went off like a frog in a sock at Wayville Showgrounds.

Dan Morton’s FORGED XY Fairmont continued its winning form, picking up firsts in every category of elite judging and taking out the Elite Car of Show gong.

Then, the very next week saw the Kindig Custom Car Show run as part of the VAILO Adelaide 500, the final event of the 2023 Supercars championship.

Dave Kindig and co-star Kevin Schiele brought two cars from the US to the event, a 1957 Chevrolet Corvette and a wild, never-seen-before 1967 Camaro.

The show proper was divided into Elite, Street Elite and Show ‘n’ Shine categories, with Street Machine Summernats judge Rachael Durbidge and Geof Tartoosie from Adelaide Auto Expo doing the groundwork and assisting the Kindig boys with the judging.

“They loved it, and they took a really strong interest in the Australian-made cars in particular,” Rachael told us. “FORGED grabbed a lot of their attention as you’d expect, because they don’t put that much into four door cars in the States like we do here.”

FORGED dominated the Elite judging, with firsts in all categories and the Elite Car of Show gong once more. As for personal picks from the Kindig fellas, Dave took a particular liking to Ron Goodman’s radial-engined Porsche 356, and Kev chose Luke Mitchell’s EVIL LJ Torana.

“They loved hanging out with all the fans and entrants, so much so they actually missed doing the flag drop for the Top 10 Shootout on track so they could stay longer,” says Rachael. “They’re super keen to come back to Australia, and the show was a major success – people were coming through all weekend checking out elite cars they don’t usually get to see.”
