There is something special about racing in the middle of Australia at Alice Springs Inland Dragway. It helps that the Central Australian Drag Racing Association folks are particularly hospitable, friendly and organised bunch, but there is something about the location of the track, the facilities and the vibe that always makes us feel excited to race there.

Over the last few years, the Heavy Hitters drag event at Red CentreNATS has evolved into a fantastic show, with over $20,000 in prize money on offer and quality entrants attending from all over Oz.

This time around Peter Coles took out the headling 6.50-7.99 class in his Torana, with Doorslammer veteran Matt Abel picking up second in his evil ’57 Chev.

In the 8.00-8.99 class, Lee Povey took his second event win on the trot in a battle of the VLs, with Lee’s blue VL triumphing over Craig Glassby’s orange example.

Dan Hodgins won the 9.00-9.99 class in his red altered, getting the win over Gary Baker in his tough HR Holden.

Mick Jury’s stunning HQ Monaro did well to edge out Jono Kelly in the 3FIVES burnout VK for the win in the 11.00 – 11.99 class.

And lastly Mick Tattam knocked off Chris Beetham in the 12.00+ class and James Low beat Leith Darrach in the bike class. Congrats all!
