Jason Kraps’s 1955 Buick Special at Drag Week – video

TAKING the term ‘barn-find’ quite literally, Jason Kraps’s ’55 Buick Special was rescued from a barn some five hours away from his home in Ohio, and bought for just $1200

He drove it for a year with the standard engine and column-shift trans, before deciding a turbo V8 was more to his liking.

Underneath the patina-clad body hides an 88mm turbo, tasked with feeding a GM performance LS crate engine running FAST EFI. Behind the LS is not your typical Turbo 400 or Powerglide; Jason instead opted for a four-speed Lenco gearbox.

The mother-and-son team have spent quite a few years following the event as spectators, but they weren’t able to overcome the challenges they encountered in their first crack at Drag Week as entrants, recording a best of 13.1 before withdrawing with a blown rear end. Check out the video for some real time footage of that!
