The iconic ‘Scorcher’ top fuel dragster, made famous by pioneering Aussie racer Ash Marshall is set to make a triumphant return to Australia shores. And what’s more, Scorcher will be entertaining the crowds at Sydney Dragway with a cackefest, during the Bangers & Mash nostalgia event, 31 October.

Scorcher has been lovingly restored back to its original racing condition by current custodian Rob Clifford, with help from Paul Davies and the Leahy Family. The dragster had lived in the USA for several year under the ownership of Aussie expats Dennis Young and Steve Easton.

The car was previously owned by Wild Bunch legend Les Winter and the dragster famously sat in the QDRA (Queensland Drag Racing Association) clubrooms in Fortitude Valley for many years.

Scorcher was the first Australian race car to eclipse the magical 200mph mark, with the record set on the 1 February1969 – with a scintillating 203.66 mph pass.

Ash was inducted into the Australian Motorsports Hall of fame in 2016. You can read our tribute to him and his wild career here:
