A piece of Alice Springs motoring history is set to cruise down the streets and onto the judging stage at this year’s Red CentreNATS, presented by LMCT+, from 5 to 7 September.

Local entrant Allan Campbell will proudly showcase his cherished 1963 Hillman 3C Sedan, a white and green classic that has been in his family for nearly six decades, in both the Street Parade and Street Judging competitions.

This is no ordinary show car. It carries generations of family memories and a deep connection to the town.

“This 1963 Hillman has been in my family since 1967,” Allan said.

“My grandfather fitted it with a Jaguar bonnet emblem before I was born. My earliest memories are of my grandmother driving me to preschool in it in the early 70s.

“After she passed in 1997, it sat for more than 20 years until I brought it back to life in 2021.”

Remarkably, the Hillman still wears its original paint, with only minor rust repairs and a resprayed front valance done more than 30 years ago.

“Even the interior remains largely untouched, complete with my grandmother’s blanket still sitting on the rear parcel shelf,” Allan said.

“I did a lot of washing and polishing as a kid and I think it paid off.”

For Allan, Red CentreNATS is about more than horsepower and chrome. It is a celebration of heritage, community and the stories that cars can tell.

“There is such a great mix of vehicles and personalities here,” Allan said.

“You see people showing off high horsepower beasts, perfectly restored classics and unique builds that reflect someone’s life story. That is what makes Red CentreNATS so special. There is a place for everyone.”

He believes events like Red CentreNATS are vital for keeping automotive culture alive in the Territory.
“These events bring people together,” Allan said.

“They inspire the next generation, give locals something to be proud of and draw visitors who see Alice Springs at its best. We have such a strong car community here and Red CentreNATS gives us a reason to all come together.”

His message to anyone thinking about entering is simple.

“Do it. Even if your car is not perfect, it is about the experience. You will meet great people, get tips and be part of something unique to the NT,” Allan said.

The 11th annual Red CentreNATS, presented by LMCT+, will take place in Alice Springs from 5 to 7 September 2025.
