AUSTRALIA’S Pro Street community was in mourning today as Craig Brewer was laid to rest during a service that looked more like a car show than a funeral.

More than 100 of Melbourne’s toughest street cars were in attendance, including Frank Marchese’s low-seven-second XW, which made the cruise out from the BP service station at Officer to Lardner Park, where the service was held. It would be impossible to list all the attendees; it literally was a who’s who of the Melbourne drag racing and burnout scene.

Craig had been battling cancer for the past few years, and is survived by his wife Rhonda and three children: Matilda, Heidi and Scott. Despite his illness he didn’t stop racing, or helping his mates with their cars. He is best known for his ‘Frog Stomp’ HR panel van, which has run high-sevens and won the APSA Pro Street Blown Championship in 2012. He also ran a successful business, Pro Pipes.

Craig, or Shonky as he was known to his mates, will be remembered as a big bloke with an even bigger heart. Always ready to lend a hand and help other racers improve their cars, even if they weren’t customers. All agree he will be sorely missed.
