THERE were countless fires on the burnout pad at Street Machine Summernats 30. Something about the hot temps in Canberra seems to make burnout cars want to spontaneously combust and burn the place down. One of the biggest and most exciting tyre fires to watch happened during Burnout Masters qualifying with Phil Kerjean’s TUFFST Commodore wagon spraying flames across the pad.

The fire only lasted a couple of seconds, but in that time managed to ignite from the driver door handles back. It was massive! Phil’s wagon has a pretty wild paint job, so we hate to think what the repair bill will be and of course he had to stop his skid before the tyres popped so he didn’t make the finals for the Burnout Masters.
