MOTOREX returned to Sydney Olympic Park this weekend and there were plenty of fresh rides for the public to gawk at. One of the freshest was Ben Judd’s EH Holden wagon, which he inherited from his mum many years ago. The car has a mix of styles on show, but under the bonnet it is firmly of the old-school.
And when it comes to old-school speed equipment for the Holden red motor, things don’t get much cooler than a Phil Irving 12-port head. Irving was the genius Aussie engineer who not only designed the legendary Vincent V-twin motorcycle engine, but also the donk that powered Jack Brabham to the 1966 Formula 1 Driver’s Championship and Manufacturer’s Championship.
In this case, Ben has matched the Irving head and inlet manifold to a trio of 50mm Weber carbies and some very neat engine bay detail.
The rorty 202 is backed by a Protrans Trimatic and a shortened VL diff – all fairly standard EH stuff, but where it goes off-chops is the 19 and 20in Showwheels rims. The fabrication work – including a rear-half job, modified firewall and work to the floor to get the exhaust tucked up tight – was done by Miller Chassis, with rust and body repairs handled by Nik Judd and Ty Yusef.
The team at Exclusive Customs finished off the bodywork and then laid on the PPG Electric Blue duco, with a contrasting Mineral White roof.
And it just so happens that Ben’s brother is Simon Judd of Elite Custom Interiors fame. He took Ben’s vision for an interior that featured a floating bench seat, but also incorporated original EH interior design elements and ran with it.
