Josh's Ford XW Falcon runs nines with a boosted Barra under the bonnet!

JOSH Tuskin has recently got this bad-arse Barra-powered XW Falcon up and running, and running quick! “I’ve owned the car since I was sixteen,” said Josh. “It originally had a 250ci pre-crossflow six, then a 250ci 2V, then I got bored.”

Now it’s packing a much more exciting power plant. Under the bonnet is a BF F6-spec 4.0-litre with FG cams, and aftermarket head studs and valve springs. It’s boosted by a monster Garrett GTX42 turbo and runs exhaust and intake manifolds and a plenum from Jason at Tunnel Vision. Fuel of choice is E85.

The Haltech Platinum Sport ECU is tuned by Simon at Casey Automotive, and all up she makes 570rwhp – a bit more than the old 250ci six-pot. Backing up the stock bottom end Barra is a transbraked two-speed Powerglide, teamed up with a TruTrac nine-inch and a leaf sprung rear end with a set of Caltracs.

Josh was up at Heathcote last weekend for the Ford Forum Nationals and the car was on song. During the freezing cold Friday night practice session the car ran a PB of 9.55@147mph and backed it up on Saturday with a killer 9.49@148mph pass, followed by a handful of mid-nines over the course of the day.

“It’s really consistent,” said Josh. “And it’s reliable. I drive it everywhere, whether it’s down to the shops or out for a cruise with mates, I drive it.”
