DJ CARL COX’S SEVEN-SECOND CAPRI AT APSA CALDER PARK – VIDEO

DJ Carl Cox might be world famous for spinning mad tunes, but he’s equally at home turning the tyres on his insane Ford Capri that he races in the APSA championship. The UK-raised DJ spends a lot of time here in Australia touring and holidaying during the warmer months and has his own place in Melbourne.

A drag racer from way back, Carl quickly found himself mingling with some of Melbourne’s top racers and hot rodders and they convinced him to build a car to race here in Australia. Since his old racer back home in the U.K was a Ford Capri, it was only logical that he pilot one here too – albeit one that has a near 2000hp powerplant thanks to Frank from Dandy Engines, full custom chassis and runs a low seven-second quarter mile. Yep, this car is insane!

Dandy Engines spec'd up a 420ci Ford small-block blown by a giant 101mm single turbo that can push up to 40lb boost. For now it runs around the 24lb mark which seems plenty to keep up with some of the other Pro Street Blown cars and for Carl to get his hit of adrenaline. It’s still a fairly new combo so fine-tuning is key, though they seem to be heading in the right direction with Carl winning his first APSA round and the running a PB during Friday’s test and tune session with a 7.3 @ 191mph.

We caught up with Carl at the Calder Park APSA round last weekend to have a chat about his Capri, DJ career and how he ended up in Melbourne!
