SYDNEY DRAGWAY saw some truly epic pro street racing last weekend with the running of the APSA Grand Finals.

Entrants came from all over the country to compete, with plenty getting in a few days testing in the lead up to the big event.

The series itself has seen meetings at Willowbank (QLD), Sydney (NSW), Benaraby (QLD), and back to Sydney again. Unfortunately Victoria missed out this year, but we’re sure to see an APSA round down south next year with Calder Park promoter Peter Pisalidis taking over the series.

The weather was great, the action fast and the quarter mile times amazing. Racing was in a “Chicago Shootout” format, which involves all racers in each class having three races. The two best performers in each class (those who have won the most races) go into a final.

Some of the individual performances were just outstanding. VPW Drag Challenge entrant Tristan Triccas bolted nitrous to his nine-second Capri and turned it into an eight-second screamer with a best of 8.86 at 148mph, while fellow Drag Challenge entrant Carolyn Tzortzas ran a 9.83 at 137mph.

Daniel Nunziante continued to stomp all over the Radial Outlaw record with a best of 6.77 at 228mph and the flying Falcons from Dandy Engines both ran deep into the sevens; Joe Gauci running 7.58 at 187mph in the white car, while Steve Bezzina’s blue beast went 7.84 at 172mph. Look for better times out of all three of these cars in the near future.

But rather than us telling you everything, check out the video we’ve put together showing some of the best runs on the day.
