MATT Lampard brought his recently revamped HZ Kingswood up to Red CentreNATS this year after loving the inaugural event in 2015. Matt has since moved from a standard LS setup to a turbo L98 6.0-litre unit which we saw make 625rwhp on the MPW Performance dyno. The 6.0-litre runs a Borg Warner S400 turbo hooked up to a set of steampipe manifolds with a 60mm wastegate. An E85 fuel system, front-mount cooler and a Shaun’s Custom Alloy intake manifold complete the setup.

The block itself is relatively standard, sporting an upgraded cam, valve springs and tougher ARP bolts. The rest of the driveline is a transbraked Powerglide ran into a full-floating 9-inch with 35 spline axles. Matt hopes to have the car running nines, and judging by its first ever drag session at Red CentreNATS, that goal is definitely achievable. The car ran consistent mid tens at around 135mph and was getting quicker with every pass. Add in a slippery track and a bit of axle tramp off the line and with some fine tuning, LUMPER is probably a serious 9-second streeter.

Matt has booked himself in for Street Machine Drag Challenge in October where he’ll put LUMPER through one of the toughest street car torture tests in the world, racing at five tracks over five days and clocking up around 1500 road kilometres. Matt is one of over 100 guys and girls that have signed up for Drag Challenge this year, it’s going to be huge!
