ONE of the best collections of Holden vehicles in Australia is about to be put up for auction.

Since 1970, Charlie McCarron, a former Holden dealer in the small town of Canowindra in Central Western NSW, has been amassing an amazing car collection comprising over 60 classic Holdens (among other cars). The cars have been housed in the premises of his old dealership and open to the public as the Canowindra Motors Holden Museum. Now, at 84 years of age, Charlie’s decided to sell his collection.

So just how amazing are we talking here? Well, for starters, there’s a mint-condition, all-original 1948 FX – only the 46th Holden ever made – with just 22,000 miles on the clock. That makes it a special car already, but throw in the fact that this is the last car Peter Brock ever drove at Mt Panorama before he died in 2006, and you start to appreciate that this humpy is likely to fetch a tad more than the $575 Charlie paid for it 46 years ago. In fact, it’s estimated it could sell for more than $300,000.

And there’s plenty more Holden goodness in Charlie’s collection; he has at least one example of almost every Holden model ever built, from the FX right up to the VY Commodore.
