WE don’t do Japanese stuff very often here at Street Machine, but Andrew Knights’s Datsun 510 was so cool we had to give it some air-time. The car originally came from America and is kind of a two-door version of the 1600 we got over here.

Its previous American owners decided to give the Datto a pro-touring style makeover at some point in its life and now it runs a Nissan SR20DET turbo four tweaked up to 309rwhp on a pretty conservative 98 Octane tune. The motor is hooked up to a Nissan Silvia five-speed and it’s got a limited slip diff in the rear.

It’s set up more for circuit track use with adjustable coil-overs at each corner, big Brembo stoppers and bucket seats with harnesses inside but we caught up with owner Andrew at Northern Nats where he was trying his hand at drag racing for the first time. He started the weekend running mid 13s and by the end of the event dipped into the 12s with a 12.8 @ 112mph.
