SECOND generation burnout pilot Jake Myers shows why he is one of the most promising young talents in the sport today. We caught up with him at Street Machine Supernats in Sydney to talk about his blown Mustang, and some of the success he had over the past three years.

As the youngest son of burnout legend Gary Myers, Jake has been around the sport all his life; travelling from show to show watching from the sidelines and helping his dad prepare the car. Well the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree it seems, and Jake first jumped behind the wheel when he was just 15 years old.

Since then he’s had a string of podium finishes, and finished in the top ten at Summernats 27 and 29 Burnout Masters. But in the last four months alone he’s finished second at Burnout Outlaws, third at Murray Bridge and second at UBC Ballarat. Not bad for a bloke who’s just celebrated his 20th birthday.

The 1966 Mustang is synonymous with the Myers name. Gary bought the car when he was just 17 years old and he’s won more burnout competitions than just about anyone in Australia. Now Jake has the keys the car has gone through a major revamp. The flamed black paint has been wrapped in 3M Fiery Orange by Vinyl Wraps & Graphics – where Jake is doing his apprenticeship – and wears a set of custom Bonspeed wheels. Up front there are 302 cubes of Ford’s finest, but rather than the polished blower and old school carbies, Jake has gone for a black anodised Littlefield 6/71 with some ‘barndoor’ injection and a 20amp MSD magneto. Good for around 1000hp at 20psi boost, Jake says.

Jake is looking to better his third place in the Burnout Masters at Summernats 30 and then maybe give the car another freshen up. He’s already talking new wheels, a new wrap and a new injector hat. In the meantime check out the video and watch Jake carve up the Summernats pad.
