VIDEO: BIG-BLOCK TORANA HATCH SKIDS IN NEW ZEALAND

Kiwi Lindsay Smith’s big-block LX Torana hatch sends smoke everywhere at NZ’s Muscle Car Madness burnout comp

LINDSAY Smith’s LX Torana hatch did one of the best skids of the weekend at Muscle Car Madness 26 in Rangiora, near Christchurch, New Zealand. Up front is an aspirated 454-cube big-block Chev motor that has no issues turning the rear hoops into smoke. And when the Torana isn’t on the burnout pad, it’s at the drag strip running 11s. Lindsay also has a nitrous system all hooked up and ready to go, which should see the car dip into the 10s.

A unique feature on the car is the power steering system, which is electric rather than hydraulic. That means Lindsay can adjust the amount of power assistance using a dial under the dash depending on what he’s doing with the car. At the burnouts he had the steering on its light setting so the wheel was easy to turn. Check out the video to see the car in action and Lindsay talk us through his set-up.
