NSW NUMBER PLATE SELLS FOR $745,000 AT AUCTION

Funny number plates 6 nw

WE DON’T mean 23QOUT, but NSW number plate 29 has fetched almost three quarters of a million dollars at the Shannons Sydney Autumn Classic Auction on Monday – BIGBUX in anyone’s language.

The winning bidder was 2QIK4U, with a bid of $745,000, leaving rivals NVS in the wake of the auction.

YNV41T? Well, double-digit heritage number plates are rarely offered 4SALE, and while their value plateaued somewhat during the GFC, this record-breaking price indicates that they may again be ONDRYZ.

If classic cars are more to your taste than PL8S, for the same price you could have bought an HK Holden ute, a ’74 Corvette Stingray, an FX Holden, a ’77 Pontiac Trans Am, an HR Prem, an HDT VH Group 3 SS, a VG Valiant hardtop, a VH Charger, an HG GTS 350 Monaro, a Porsche 356C and an XY GT. You’d even get $31,000 in change!

The Falcon, a SMIKAZ example of an XYJG33 in Yellow Ochre, fetched the largest sum of any car to go under the hammer ONDNYT at $180,000. You could have bought it four times over for the price paid for the prized number plate.

Would you pay $745,000 for a piece of pressed tin? YEHNAH!

Plate 29 not your style? Maybe these hilarious and somewhat offensive NSFW plates on for size:
