KIDS charities always tug at the heart strings, but even more so when they’re kids of people you know. Hundreds turned out at MPW Performance and Eye Candy Motorsports last weekend to support Street Machine’s Deputy Editor Scott Taylor in his attempt to raise $40,000 to buy a mobility vehicle for his disabled son Alex.

Alex suffers from cerebral palsy after lack-of-oxygen issues during his birth in 2009. The resulting brain injury means that Alex can’t walk or talk, but he is a happy kid and very aware of his surroundings, and has just started attending the Warragul And District Specialist School. Getting him to and from school was becoming an increasing problem in the family’s EL Falcon wagon, and after it gave up the ghost in early February the guys at MPW Performance, Eye Candy Motorsports and popular cruise organisers HWY banded together to help raise money for a new mobility vehicle.

With a price tag of around $40,000 for a second hand vehicle the target was tough, but a very successful Go fund Me campaign, culminating with the Wheels for Alex Dyno Day and bikini car wash raised most of the cash needed. Then the guys from the 4×4 fundraising organisation Drive4Life tipped in another $15,000 to push things over the edge. All in all over $50,000 has been raised in just three weeks.
