OVER 10,000 screaming fans headed to the parking lot of the abandoned Pontiac Superdome in Auburn Hills, Michigan for the first-ever Roadkill Nights Powered By Dodge.
Only in America would you convert a parking lot into an eighth-mile drag strip and invite 200 racers and another 200 show cars for a day of racing, drifting and horsepower partying. The free pop-up festival was used to kick off the 2015 Woodward Dream Cruise, the world’s biggest one-day automotive event (1.5 million people and around 40,000 cars).
The drag racing portion of Roadkill Nights was pretty cool for the fact that the winner, Brandon Phillips, received a brand new 707hp Hellcat crate engine! But what’s even cooler is that he won with his ’69 Dodge Super Bee. We’re not sure if Brandon is planning to bolt the Hellcat into the ’Bee, but no doubt he won’t have a problem finding a home for such an auspicious engine.

The major drawcard for the show was the much-anticipated match-up between Roadkill and Gas Monkey Garage. They’re two of the most powerful automotive entertainment brands around right now, and both are sponsored by Dodge. It’s a marketing department’s dream come true. A couple months back the guys from Roadkill put out a challenge to Gas Monkey – the rules seem a bit vague, but basically it involved putting a Hellcat engine into an old Dodge and having a heads-up drag race. Gas Monkey won the night with their lightweight ’67 Dart taking the win against Roadkill’s General Mayhem ’68 Dodge Charger. No doubt it’ll feature in a future episode of Gas Monkey’s Fast & Loud TV show.

It was an amazing turnout for the inaugural event and it looks like Dodge and Roadkill are planning to do something similar again next year. “We planned for this to be a one-time-only event, but after experiencing the incredible performance enthusiast turn-out, and after hundreds of requests to do it again, we’ve committed to teaming back up with Roadkill to do it again next year,” FCA CEO Tim Kuniskis said. “We don’t know when or where, but trust us; it will be even bigger and better.”
