THE 70S are best remembered for disco music, custom panelvans, and some of the greatest films of all time (Grease, Jaws, The Godfather and Star Wars).
The custom van craze became so big that Ford, Holden and Chrysler even made panelvans aimed directly as the market with catchy names like, Sundowner, Sandman and Drifter. Enter the then young and impressionable Simon Major.
He wrote to the now defunct Custom Vans and Trucks magazine about his plans to build a custom Chrysler van, and 30 years later he made that dream reality with this heavily customised van – named DISTURBIA. “People either love it or they hate it,” Simon says, “But I stayed true to the design I laid out as a nine-year-old kid.” We reckon this 70s time warp was definitely worthy of a feature in our January issue of Street Machine.
