DOORSLAMMER racing returned to Calder Park Raceway last month for the Southern Nationals, with the likes of Victor Bray, Peter Kapiris and John Zappia going head to head as they chased points for the national championship.

But it wasn’t all about those wild and crazy monsters. With Pro Stock and Pro Stock Bike also chasing for points, plus a full field of sportsman categories, there was plenty of action on hand for any drag racing enthusiast.

Unfortunately the show was cancelled before the end of the night with track temperatures plummeting to unsafe levels just before the finals. It was a disappointing result for racers and spectators alike with many looking forward to seeing top qualified Stuart Bishop take on National Champion John Zappia in the final. But one thing was certain; it was great to see championship drag racing back at Calder Park. We hope to see more of it.
