Rain almost ruined day five of Street Machine Drag Challenge 2017, but we hung in there and delivered an epic finale to our toughest-ever event

IT was a punishing event right from the off, with two days of brutal heat at Adelaide International Raceway and Mildura’s Sunset Strip. We then had a reasonable day at Swan Hill, after which things took a turn for the decidedly damp. Rain prevented us from making a single pass at South Coast Raceway, Portland and then threatened to stop proceedings on the final day back AIR. But thanks to some luck, a heap of hard work by the AIR track staff and the determination of the racers, we got day five done before dark.

Once everyone was packed up, we retreated to the nearby White Horse Hotel, where the awards were presented in front of a packed house. Quentin Feast and his crew recorded their third win from three starts, but there was much to celebrate.

Anyone with the imagination to take the plunge and enter the event is doing something special. And to finish? That is a major achievement in any highly modified car.

Thanks to all the racers, track staff and Street Machine crew for their herculean efforts during Drag Challenge 2017.
