THE MUD RUN 2017: GALLERY

ONE of the most significant trends in our sport over the last 15 years or so has been the rise of DIY events and one of our favourites is the Mud Run.

DIY events are everywhere. In the burnout scene, Gazzanats, the Ultimate Burnout Challenge and many other comps have been run by the competitors themselves, causing the whole sport to explode in popularity.

On the hot rod side of things, Newstead’s Chopped festival paved the way for a host of similar hootenannies, including the Mud Run, Stroppy Jalopy, the Uralla Dust up and the Asphalt Demons Invitational.

Each event does things their own way to suit themselves and their entrants. For example, Chopped has fairly stringent rules around traditional car styling and bikes types. The Mud Run is more relaxed and actually has a class just for postie bikes that is hugely popular.

What all of these events have in common is that they are a labour of love for the promoters and a treasured date on the calendar for their entrants. Check out Peter Bateman’s photos to see just how much fun getting muddy can be!
