DRAG CHALLENGE 2015 SPECTATOR GUIDE

Street Machine Drag Challenge 2015

STREET Machine Drag Challenge is upon us! The mayhem begins at the end of next week as we get ready to race at five different drag strips over five days with some of the quickest street-legal cars in the country – there are racers coming from West Oz, South Australia, Tasmania, Queensland and other faraway lands. There’ll be no car trailers or support vehicles; these guys are going to have to drive between tracks, race the wheels off their cars, and pray nothing breaks. The rules are here:

Street Machine and the 50-odd cars competing will be putting on a pretty cool show at each of the drag strips we visit over the five days, so if you want to watch some drag racing or are keen to follow the circus, here’s what you need to know.

DAY 1: FRIDAY 23 OCTOBER, CALDER PARK

DRAG Challenge starts at Calder Park in Victoria, with racing from 11am to 3pm. It’ll cost you $15 to come and be a spectator and catch all the Day One action. As a bonus, some of the heavy-hitters in town for the Jamboree will also be there doing some testing.

DAY 2: SATURDAY 24 OCTOBER, SOUTH COAST RACEWAY, PORTLAND

ON DAY Two we’re at Portland’s South Coast Raceway, about 360 clicks west of Melbourne. Once again, we’ll be on the strip racing from 11am until 3pm, and it’ll cost $15 to spectate.

DAY 3: SUNDAY 25 OCTOBER, SUNSET STRIP, KOORLONG

FOR Day Three we’re going to be way up near Mildura at Sunset Strip, a 540km haul from Portland. Racing will commence at 11am and finish at 3pm; it’s $10 to come along and watch the fun.

DAY 4: MONDAY 26 OCTOBER, HEATHCOTE PARK RACEWAY

ON MONDAY we’ll be racing at Heathcote Park from 11am right up until 6pm, so provided all of the cars have made it this far, it will be an action-packed day! It’ll cost $20 to spectate on this leg of Drag Challenge.

DAY 5: TUESDAY 27 OCTOBER, CALDER PARK RACEWAY

ON THE final day, we’ll be returning to Calder Park. We’ll be racing from 11am. Once Drag Challenge itself is over, we will be running two additional brackets. The first bracket will be a heads-up elimination shootout, where all the entrants from the tyre classes will run heads-up against each other. The second bracket will be a DYO elimination competition for all the DYO guys to compete against each other directly. Then, once the overall and class winners of Drag Challenge have been calculated, we’ll award their trophies at 5pm.

Remember, if you can’t get to the track and spectate, we’ll be uploading lots of content to the Street Machine website direct from the race tracks, as well as Facebook and Instagram
