KUSTOM KULTURE WEEKEND: RODS, BOBBERS & CUSTOMS

Kustom Kulture Weekend is Adelaide’s premier immersion in low-brow culture

PART OF the Adelaide Fringe, the Kustom Kulture Weekend is Adelaide’s premier immersion in low-brow culture.

Rods and customs form the event’s core, rounded out by a heap of other goodness, from burlesque and pin-up to tattooists and art in all sorts of media. It’s all topped off by awesome rockabilly, ska and punk bands from across Australian and overseas.

Aptly, the 13th KKW kicked off on Friday 13th. Clubs and lone wolves staked their claim on Saturday morning as the bikes rolled in for the Knees To The Breeze Poker run, and soon the car park was swamped with cool trad rods and customs.

While space was at a premium, the small confines added to the atmosphere, keeping the event niche, fun, tight and light, with an overarching slow-down-and-enjoy approach to the festivities.

Bands played from Friday night to Sunday arvo, headlined on Saturday night by Big Sandy and Los Straitjackets, who brought the house down.
